The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources signed an agreement to assign work to implement the industrial coral reef project in the state of Tire for the second phase with Haejoo Engineering and Contracting Ltd.
The agreement includes designing, manufacturing and unloading units of artificial reefs in Sur City and following up the results of their installation in the marine environment, at a total cost of 90,000 Omani riyals funded by the Omani Indian Fertilizer Company #omifco.
The agreement was signed on the side of the ministry by Eng. Yaqoub bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, while on the company’s side it was signed by the General Manager of Haejoo Engineering and Contracting Ltd.
The project is part of the strategic plans to develop the fish sector, and the Ministry directs to enhance fish stocks and biodiversity in the waters of the Sultanate in a way that ensures the sustainability of natural fisheries, by creating appropriate conditions and providing an appropriate environment for the flourishing of other fish and marine species, as the industrial reef units represent an environment that attracts many fish to be places of shelter And the reproduction and food source of fish.
In preparation for assigning the work of this project, the Marine and Fishery Sciences Center in the Ministry worked on selecting the best models designed in the industrial reef units in terms of size, sizes, manufacturing material that is not harmful to the environment and the design of the external appearance of the units.
The project will be followed up by carrying out surveying and diving works to ensure the units are fit and free from breakage or damage, and to verify their condition according to the planned distribution.
